N1 Theatre Company proudly presents ‘The Winter’s Tale’ by William Shakespeare.
Directed by Paul Jaynes (Royal Exchange Manchester, Bristol Old Vic, Coventry Belgrade) and performed by Court Theatre Training Company final year undergraduate students of our BA (Hons) Acting degree for a limited run at The Courtyard Theatre.
Synopsis:
‘This production reimagines Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale in a polarised contemporary world, using two distinctly modern worlds to explore themes of power, paranoia, renewal, and forgiveness. Sicilia becomes a world inspired by the aesthetics and ideology of the Trump era—not a literal depiction of any real person, but a stylised, heightened universe shaped by its values. Bohemia becomes a freeform eco-commune, a vibrant counterculture community that lives in harmony with nature, creativity, and communal trust. By placing these worlds in opposition, the production exposes the modern roots of Shakespeare’s timeless conflict: the cold, self-destructive force of unchecked power and the healing potential of human connection.’
