Applying and Auditions

Application

To apply for a place on the BA (Hons) Acting degree course throughout the year, please fill out the online Application Form on the course’s page.

Applications are also accepted through UCAS, the online service for applying to Universities, using the course details below:

  • Course Code: W410
  • Institution Code: B94
  • Campus Code: T

If you have submitted your application through our website and have been offered a place, we will require a UCAS application to be completed as well. Following receipt of your completed Application Form, you will receive an invitation to audition. Applications are accepted throughout the Academic Year as the admission process is ongoing.

There is a non-refundable Audition Fee of £35.00; please note this has been waived for 2021 intake applications.

Audition

The audition process is utilised to assess the suitability of applicants for the training. Auditions can either be in person at The Courtyard Theatre or applicants can submit a video of their audition. You do not need a hi-spec camera and we will happily accept pieces filmed on a phone; further instructions will be included in your audition invitation.

For the audition you are required to prepare two contrasting pieces of no more than two minutes in length and one short written piece as follows:

  • A Shakespeare, or alternative playwright from the same period
  • A contemporary piece from a modern play (1980 onwards)

It is essential that you have a good working knowledge of both plays.

  • A piece of writing describing a theatre event that you have seen (500 words maximum)

Live Online Audition

We are delighted to be working with the groundbreaking platform Perform This to allow you to audition free of charge in a live audition from your own home, in your own time. Follow the instructions on the screen and your audition will be uploaded for us to review and get back to you. Good luck!

Interview

If you choose to audition in person there will be a short interview following the performance of your pieces and if you choose to audition via video you will be invited to attend an online interview. In the interview, we expect to hear from you about:

  • Why you have chosen to apply to Court Theatre Training Company?
  • What you believe you will gain from the training?
  • Why studying with us may be a particularly useful experience for you?

Shortly after your interview you will be informed whether you would like to offer you a place on the course. Your offer might be conditional on achieving the required 80 UCAS points for entry from your exam results.

Entry Requirements

The following requirements need to be meant for entry on to our degree course:

  • Minimum age of 18 years old; there is not an upper age limit and we welcome applications from mature applicants
  • 80 UCAS points if you have recently studied a qualification that has a UCAS tariff equivalence; mature applicants do not require UCAS points for entry
  • A successful audition and interview
