N1 Theatre Company proudly presents ‘Blue Stockings’ by Jessica Swale.

Directed by Emma Taylor (Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Canal Cafe Theatre) and performed by Court Theatre Training Company final year undergraduate students of our BA (Hons) Acting  degree for a limited run at The Courtyard Theatre.

Synopsis:

“It may be a pity for women that they are born women, but in running the intellectual race, it’s unlikely they will succeed and perilous to even try…” declares Dr. Henry Maudsley, renowned psychiatrist, as he sets the tone for what we’re about to see.

This important, eye-opening play shines a light on the plight of four brilliant young women fighting for the same rights as their male peers: to a receive a degree for which they had studied.

Set at Girton College, Cambridge University in 1896, Blue Stockings refers to the derogatory term used to describe intellectual, educated women.
